Radiohead Review – Metro, Chicago, IL 1996

April 4, 1996, Metro, Chicago, IL,

Pretty average show for this time. Not many highlights. Thom seems to be in a ‘mood.’ The concert video is taken from a JBTV broadcast, so its filmed professionally. The drums are a bit high in the mix and the guitars could be louder. At times, it’s a frustrating listen.  From the start, the crowd is digging the show. Lots of crowd surfing, however Thom isn’t amused. During the end of Bones, he’s staring at the crowd and looks pretty annoyed. After the song, he makes a comment saying, “all crowd surfers are wankers.” Thom gets energized with a good version of Anyone Can Play Guitar. After the song, he complains once again about the crowd surfers. An uninspired Creep is played with Thom bailing out towards the end and letting the crowd sing the rest.  A beautiful Bullet Proof is played at the beginning of the encore. After the last song Blow Out, Thom is quick to get off stage.

Steven Santarpia is my name. I'm a big fan of both Radiohead and The Grateful Dead. The two best bands i've ever seen live. For the Grateful Dead, I mostly saw New York area shows. My first Grateful Dead show was in 1988. I've done a lot more traveling to Radiohead shows. My first Radiohead show was in 1997.

Favorite musical artists include The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Band, Radiohead, REM, Animal Collective, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Bjork, and The Grateful Dead.
